Robbie Buhl
Lead Instructor
Robbie Buhl is the founder and lead instructor of Teen Street Skills. With over 30 years of experience in motorsports, Robbie created Teen Street Skills as a non-profit program to give back to the community in his hometown of Detroit.
Robbie has spent his career racing professionally and instructing teens and adults, alike, at driving schools around the US. He has raced in a number of different series and has won at the highest level. Robbie was Barber Saab Pro Series Champion in 1989 and Indy Lights Champion in 1992, finishing on the podium in the first 11 races of the 12 race season. In 1993, Robbie, along with Wally Dallenbach, Jr., Robby Gordon, and Tommy Kendall, took 1st place in the GTS class at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in a Ford Mustang with Roush Racing.
Robbie made the jump to IndyCar in 1996 and won races in New Hampshire and at Walt Disney World. In 2002, he started on the front row at the Indianapolis 500—one of his eight times qualifying for The Greatest Spectacle in Racing from 1996 to 2003.
After retiring from IndyCar as a driver, Robbie continued as team owner of Dreyer & Reinbold Racing before starting his own racing team, Racing4Detroit, with his brother Tom. Robbie has also been national spokesperson for Racing For Kids, a charity that visits Children’s Hospitals where IndyCar races are held, and a color commentator for IndyCar races on Versus.
