Participants must pre-register ahead of time at the Teen Street Skills website. On-site registration opens 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. The program runs approximately 3 1/2 hours in either a morning or afternoon session. Morning sessions are typically 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and afternoon sessions typically 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
The cost of the program is FREE, however, credit card information is collected upon pre-registration. Those who cancel within 48 hours of their scheduled program, or those who are enrolled but do not show up, will be charged $25.
Following a brief introduction, students will be split into two groups of about 15 students. The 3 1/2 hour program is split into two segments covering four main exercises: Emergency Braking, Skid Control, Evasive Lane Change, and Car Knowledge 2.0.
The first segment involves Emergency Braking and Skid Control exercises, with students switching after 40 minutes. There is a quick course changeover to prepare for the second segment involving the Evasive Lane Change exercise and Car Knowledge 2.0 (with an Officer from Detroit Police Department). The two groups of students switch after 35 minutes.
